Call Your Elected Officials
House and Senate lawmakers are in the process of deciding how your money will be spent in fiscal 2010. Today is your opportunity to weigh in and ask them to include $200 million in the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill to support poor countries' efforts to adapt to increasing droughts, floods, famine and diseases that result from climate change.
For the first time ever, Congress included $10 million in the fiscal 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act for the Least Developed Countries Fund – a United Nations adaptation fund that provides resources to least developed countries for them to prepare and implement plans to cope with climate change. Although this was an important first step, ActionAid is urging the U.S. Congress to substantially increase its contribution to the Least Developed Countries Fund to at least $200 million.
To ensure that our elected officials understated the importance of supporting developing countries in their quest to adapt to the impacts of climate change, we are asking you to take a moment out of your busy day and let your lawmakers know that this issue matters to their constituents. Just follow the instructions on the right.
