Dear Sirs,

I am concerned about the effects of rising food prices around the world, which have pushed 44 million people into extreme poverty in the past year. In response to this, many of the poorest countries are taking on heavy new debt burdens. I am writing to urge the IMF direct the Fund’s $2.8 billion in excess windfall profits from gold sales to aid poor countries in crisis through non-debt creating assistance and/or debt relief.
