Tell President Obama to take the lead on hunger with the G8

Right now, 1 in 6 people around the world don’t have enough to eat. That number is skyrocketing, up 20% since 2005.

The G8 took a step in July and pledged $22 billion in new funding to combat hunger. But they still haven’t followed through on that commitment.

Tell President Obama to lead the charge and hold his fellow G8 leaders accountable and keep their promises to end world hunger.

The Petition

Dear President Obama,

The global food system is too big to fail. Every day, nearly 16,000 children die from hunger related causes. We have the power to save those children. Already, there is more than enough food in the world to feed the 1/6 of our population that is hungry. We just need our world leaders to respect their pledges and commit to a global hunger eradication plan.

While I applaud your commitment of new U.S. funding for hunger eradication efforts, you need to lead the G8 to:

- Create and fund long-term hunger eradication plans – and agree to have these plans monitored by the UN and civil society to ensure transparency.

- Make good on their existing funding commitments.

- Invest in sustainable agriculture and focus their funding on the small holder and women farmers who make up more than 60% of the world's hungry people.

With more than 1 billion people already going hungry, there’s no time to waste. We cannot afford to lose such precious lives by failing to act.

I have joined ActionAid in calling for a world free from hunger. I want you to make this a reality.
