Almaz Gashaw, 45, stands by her sorghum crop in Kombolcha District, Ethiopia. During the drought in 2009, as she lost 100 per cent of her crops, she was forced to sell 20 of 25 her goats in order to feed her family.
At the Cancun Climate Summit in December 2010 (read about it here) countries agreed to establish a new Green Climate Fund to channel funding to help developing countries confront the climate crisis. The Green Climate Fund will be designed this year by a Transitional Committee of 15 developed and 25 developing countries. Civil society organizations have come together to draft recommendations to the Transitional Committee to help ensure that the Fund is both equitable and effective at addressing the climate crisis. The first meeting of the Transitional Committee is will take place in Mexico City at the end of April. ActionAid staff member Ilana Solomon will travel to Mexico City to observe the meeting and share the recommendations. For more updates, check back on our website!
