Kenya Overview
Every month in 2009 ActionAid will introduce you to our work by featuring one of the 50 countries ActionAid works in. We know it can be overwhelming when contemplating the challenges faced by poor people and communities around the world. It can be even more difficult to understand how you can have a role in solutions to global poverty.
But there is hope. Because of our network of supporters and activists, ActionAid is making day-to-day life better for millions of the world’s poorest citizens while working to change the fundamental causes of poverty, project by project, policy by policy.
This January we are inviting you to learn more about ActionAid and our work in Kenya. We are offering our projects and programs so you can learn how to join the fight against poverty from Nairobi, to Mombasa to Embu.

Country Overview:
Kenya is one of Africa’s largest countries, with a rapidly growing population of 32.8 million people from many different ethnic groups. The economy has been in decline for several years. Reduced income from coffee and tea – the main export earners – and damage to the tourism industry by political instability are nation-wide problems which affect the poorest people the most.
ActionAid works in partnership with some of Kenya’s most deprived communities since 1974. We now work with over a million people there, helping them to eradicate poverty from their lives and build a brighter future for themselves.
We want to share with you four projects ActionAid conducts in Kenya addressing the various challenges Kenyans face. We invite you to join us in these projects and learn about the incredible strength, ingenuity and self-determination of poor individuals and communities in Kenya and how you can join the fight.
