This year marks 20 years of ActionAid USA. 20 years of building a just, equitable, and sustainable world in solidarity with communities on the frontlines of poverty and injustice. 20 years of shifting power towards communities and away from elites. 20 years of challenging ideologies, legal systems, and social norms. 20 years of defending human rights. We are celebrating the success of people power and looking forward to 20+ more years!
Follow along with us from December 1st through 20th to learn more about our organization, the communities we support, and new ways for you to join the movement for a more just and sustainable world.
Day 1: Start off strong by signing up for our email list to get critical updates about our human rights campaigns, report launches, and other ways to get involved!
Day 2: Make a one-time gift!
Since we opened our doors, we have fought tirelessly to build a more just, equitable, and sustainable world in solidarity with communities on the frontlines of poverty and injustice. And we couldn’t have done any of this without the incredible people power that has fueled the past 20 years.
That’s why on this second day we’re asking you to make a one-time gift in support of the local leaders on the frontlines catalyzing change and mobilizing and inspiring others within their communities.
Day 3: Donate cryptocurrency, stock, or recommend ActionAid USA for a grant from your DAF!
There are so many ways that communities and organizations fight for the rights of people on the frontlines of poverty and injustice – just as there are many ways to give! By giving a gift of cryptocurrency, stock, or through your donor advised fund, you are maximizing your impact today.
Day 4: Shop with us!
Wear your activism and shop with us this holiday season!
STARTING TODAY: 20% off all purchases in our Bonfire store; just use the code: peoplepower! Check out all our originally designed shirts, mugs — even face masks. Get yourself or your friends a gift that matters.
Day 5: Support those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic
Only 2% of people in low-income countries have had at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, according to the World Health Organization. This incredible vaccine inequity guarantees needless deaths and economic pain in countries that are already vulnerable. It also increases the chances of vaccine-resistant variants emerging that would put the whole world back to square one on immunization.
So today, we hope you’ll join us to stop the spread by making a donation for hygiene kit distribution, public health education, and advocacy for public services.
Day 6: Double your donation!
If you’re looking to double your impact, look no further! Many companies generously match their employees’ charitable contributions. It only takes a a minute to see if you are eligible for a matching gift through your employer!
Day 7: Defend the Right to Food!
Did you know small-scale farmers produce 80% of the world’s food? Yet due to numerous factors, including limited government investment in agricultural development, small-scale farmers and producers are among the first to experience hunger and loss of income during crises like COVID-19. That’s why ActionAid USA is working with family farmers and their organizations around the world to transform the ways food is produced, distributed, and consumed.
Watch and share this video, then take action to defend the right to food!
Day 8: Start a Facebook fundraiser!
With your help, we have accomplished so much in 20 years, but there is still much more to be done to ensure the safety and rights of our global community.
It’s day eight of our celebration of 20 years – are you ready for a challenge? Set up a Facebook fundraiser and ask those in your community to help you reach your goal by December 20th! This is an easy and effective way to engage your family and friends and support our work across the world. Get started here.
Day 9: Read and share our latest publication Food Connects Us All!
Learn more from grassroots voices on the importance of building agroecology and joining global struggles.
“Agroecology is resistance. We’re working against the current, industrial, corporate-dominated agriculture system. But it’s more than just resistance. It’s also a pathway to a better society, a society that’s more just and that recognizes the value of our food, the way we grow that food, and our connection to nature,” shares Patti Naylor.

Day 10: Help us reach our goal of 20 peer-to-peer giving pages!
We are inspired by the power of community, and how you, our fiercest advocates, have rallied to support human rights across the globe. This year, more than ever, we’re reminded of how interconnected we are, and that we should support one another as peers fighting for a more just, equitable, and sustainable world.
What better way to show your support than to mobilize your own network through a peer-to-peer fundraiser? It only takes a few minutes to create and is easy to share with family and friends.
Day 11: Learn more about who we are!
2021 marks 20 years of ActionAid USA fighting for the rights of the most vulnerable and marginalized, elevating voices to hold governments and corporations accountable, and building a world where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. Together, we are celebrating the success of people power and look forward to 20+ more years!
Day 12: will you ask your house of worship, school, or community center to designate a day when all donations go to ActionAid USA?
We are more powerful in numbers. Our past twenty years have been fueled by people power and we look forward to many more years, together with you. Learn more here.
Day 13: Learn more about #TIAA’s controversial investments and why it’s critical we stand with local farming communities in Brazil and the U.S.
Today, we ask you to listen and share the article A giant investment firm paid a university to study one of its biggest assets — farmland featuring ActionAid USA’s Senior Policy Analyst Doug Hertzler. In this article, he dives into TIAA’s controversial investments and why it’s critical we stand with local farming communities in Brazil and the U.S. You just might be surprised at how connected you are to this issue!
Day 14: Tell TIAA to Divest from Fossil Fuels and Stop Land Grabs!
Retirement giant TIAA (Teacher Insurance Annuity Association) manages $1.3 trillion in assets for universities and nonprofits. It’s one of the largest owners of farmland and timberland on the planet and has built a reputation for social responsibility. Yet it is buying farmland in places where land grabbing and fraud are widespread, both in the U.S. and in countries like Brazil. These land deals are destroying the environment and contaminating water sources in one of the most biodiverse regions of the world – the Brazilian Cerrado.
We refuse to let this company manipulate and overpower the public and Indigenous communities.
Sign the petition here to stand with us against land grabs.
Day 15: Become a major donor!
We rely on your transformative giving to help fulfill our mission of ending poverty and injustice, worldwide. Donors of $1,000+ will be recognized in ActionAid USA’s Annual Report and will receive special program updates, video updates from our work on the ground, and invitations to ActionAid events and webinars held throughout the year.
If you are confident in our work, join us in our fight for a more just and sustainable world.
Day 16: Make a gift in honor of someone for the holidays!
20 years of fighting for a just and equitable world could not have happened without people power – people like you! And the more people we have involved, the more positive change we’re able to make in our world.
On Day 16, why not include your family and friends in this fight?
Make a gift in honor of someone special for the holidays! Click here to donate and receive a printable certificate.
Day 17: Make a legacy gift!
What will your legacy be? We have accomplished so much together, but now comes an even greater challenge: Our rapidly changing world, where pandemics, climate change, racial injustice, and authoritarian governments can threaten already vulnerable communities, means we must double down on our efforts.
Over the next 10 years and beyond, ActionAid USA aims to increase our policy and programmatic work within the US and across our global federation, so that more leaders can be equipped with the skills to fight poverty and injustice.
Our goal is to ensure that, one day, ActionAid is no longer needed; that one day, communities have the power they need to thrive. Your legacy gift can help make that a reality. Get started today!
Day 18: Pledge your support for a just transition in food!
The farm crisis and the climate crisis are linked. Both are having devastating impacts on farmers and rural workers across the country, leading to the loss of family farms and deepening economic decline in rural areas.
We can’t address one crisis without the other. Both must be addressed together, and we can do this through a just transition in agriculture and a just recovery for the food system. Show family farmers support by taking action today to address the climate and farm crises!
Pledge your support here!
Day 19: Become a sustaining member!
We believe in people power to drive that change. You have that power – the power to create a more equitable world, one in which all people are entitled to the same basic rights and a life of dignity. Your monthly commitment – of any amount – will provide the reliable support that we need to continue this critical work in both the short-and long-term, and will help us better plan for the future.
Get started here!
Day 20: Celebrate 20 years with us!
This year marks: 20 years shifting power towards communities and away from elites. 20 years of challenging ideologies, legal systems, and social norms. 20 years of defending human rights.
Thank you for following along. Thank you for taking action. Thank you for all you do to support ActionAid USA!
On the final day of our celebration, we ask you to watch and share our video reflecting on the past 20 years!
