ActionAid urged all parties involved in the conflict in Lebanon to respect the ceasefire agreement and ensure the protection of civilians, following the extension of the ceasefire deal until February 18.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, since the ceasefire came into effect on November 27, at least 83 people have been killed and 228 injured in attacks by Israeli forces in Lebanon. On Sunday, it was reported that 22 people were killed and over 120 injured as they attempted to return to their homes in southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, thousands of displaced families are struggling with the devastating aftermath of Israeli forces’ attacks, including the widespread destruction of homes and essential infrastructure.
ActionAid, in partnership with local organizations, is providing emergency cash support to the hardest-hit families to help them buy food and other essentials. Despite our efforts, more humanitarian funding is urgently needed to help those in immediate need and to support long-term recovery.

“It is outrageous that so many people have been killed and injured since the ceasefire was agreed. The ceasefire should have given displaced families the chance to start rebuilding their lives, but instead they’re being attacked as they try to go back home. All parties must uphold their commitments to the ceasefire and ensure civilians are protected from harm.
People in Lebanon are still in crisis. Although many have returned home, they have been met with devastation. Thousands of homes have been reduced to ruins, and critical infrastructure like electricity and healthcare facilities have been destroyed. Others are still unable to return home due to the continued Israeli military presence in their towns and villages.
Immediate support is needed to address these urgent needs, while also investing in long-term recovery. We call on the international community to step up its assistance and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those who need it most.”
