Ahead of today’s People’s Climate March in Washington D.C., Brandon Wu, Director of Policy and Campaigns at ActionAid USA, said:

“Today, we’re joining the People’s Climate March to stand together with the world’s poorest and most marginalized groups that are already forced to live with climate change.

“People here in the U.S. and around the world know climate change is real – they’re already adapting to droughts, rising sea levels and more extreme weather. But while the forest fires rage and parts of the world slip into famine, Trump and his team continue their game of Russian roulette, ignoring the scientific evidence and putting all our futures at risk.

“The U.S. is the biggest historical emitter of climate change-causing greenhouse gases and one of the world’s richest countries. We have a huge responsibility to the rest of the world to take the most ambitious climate action possible.

“This must include revoking subsidies for the fossil fuel industry and keeping oil and gas in the ground. We must use this huge amount of money to support people here in the U.S. and around the world to adapt to the effects of climate change, and move to renewable sources of energy, while providing new opportunities for workers in a sustainable economy.

“That’s why we’re here as part of the growing People’s Climate Movement to put pressure on our leaders – whomever they may be – and force them to take the climate action we all know is necessary.”
