The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released the final Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) for 2019 Advanced Biofuel and 2020 Biomass-Based Diesel. Kelly Stone, Policy Analyst at ActionAid USA, said:
“This rule allows for more food-based bioenergy to be used in our transportation supply, which hurts communities and is bad for the climate. Any ‘reset’ of the Renewable Fuel Standard needs to focus on the original intention of this legislation – to reduce emissions – and on stopping all of the unintended negative consequences it’s having on communities. The RFS isn’t working for anyone, and a reset can’t just be a deal the Trump administration strikes between Big Ag and Big Oil.”
“The clock is ticking on the fight against climate change. We don’t have time for false solutions to climate change like biofuels or for power struggles between some of the biggest culprits of global warming. Instead, we need policies that move us towards truly sustainable energy and we need them right now.”
