“As more and more countries demand a ceasefire, the US is becoming isolated. Biden’s mild criticisms and calls for “change” do not reflect the gravity of the humanitarian catastrophe at hand. The US must request a ceasefire and an accompanying peace process to address the root causes of this protracted crisis.”
Riham Jafari, Coordinator of Advocacy and Communication for ActionAid Palestine, said:
“With its resounding vote for a ceasefire, the UN general assembly gave a powerful signal that the horrors in Gaza cannot be tolerated any longer. Momentum is rapidly building, and those who fail to join the call for a ceasefire are looking increasingly isolated.
Yesterday’s vote was a small moment of hope for Gaza’s 2.3 million citizens who, after facing more than two months of near-constant bombardment, feel the world has largely abandoned them. With hundreds more lives being lost each day, we must keep the pressure up and keep demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire. It is the only way to stop more lives being lost and allow humanitarian aid to reach those who desperately need it.”
