ActionAid is deeply alarmed by the findings of the latest IPC report, which warns that the Gaza Strip is on the brink of famine. Over 1.84 million people are experiencing acute food insecurity, with nearly 133,000 already facing catastrophic conditions.

For decades, the Israeli government has acted with impunity in its treatment of Palestinians, repeatedly violating international law. The deliberate targeting of food supplies, destruction of essential services like healthcare and water systems, and the use of starvation as a weapon of war are pushing Gaza toward collapse. These actions are clear violations of international humanitarian law, and if the violence continues, famine will soon become a reality for all Palestinians in Gaza.

We demand an end to this impunity and call for full accountability. The international community must use all available diplomatic and legal mechanisms to protect Palestinians and safeguard their rights. All states must respect the decisions of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and support its proceedings to hold those responsible accountable. UN Member States must also act decisively to uphold the UNGA Resolution on the ICJ Advisory Opinion on Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine before more lives and futures are irreparably destroyed.

Only an immediate and permanent ceasefire can halt this escalating destruction and allow for the delivery of life-saving aid. We urgently call on governments to suspend arms sales to Israel and take immediate action, including sanctions, to end the violence. The world must act now to protect civilian lives and uphold the rule of law.

Support Palestinians in crisis

As the human rights of people in the occupied Palestinian territories continue to be abused, women and children are especially at risk. Gaza faces a dire lack of medical facilities, schools, and homes, as so many have been hit by Israeli airstrikes. ActionAid works in communities near the border with Israel that have been most directly affected by the violence. ActionAid's women-led response is supporting the most vulnerable and marginalized individuals and communities.
