On Friday, January 20, 2017, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the President of the United States of America.
Marie Clarke, Executive Director of ActionAid USA, said:
“Today, the eyes of the world are on President Trump and his new administration as they take office, with the decisions being made in our nation’s capital having impacts far beyond U.S. borders. The new administration is packed with business leaders who have shown little or no regard for the rights of people and the health of our planet.
“ActionAid has long criticized the excessive influence of large corporations over our nation’s foreign policy. President Trump has taken this one step further, putting big business at the heart of our government.
“Our own work in 45 countries around the world places people living in poverty and exclusion at its very center. We know that when people come together, they can be powerful catalysts for change. We will resist the Trump administration’s attempts to increase divides in our nation, and work with allies at home and abroad to build bridges not walls.
“We’ll continue to take sides with people living in poverty and exclusion around the world, and Americans dedicated to realizing an equitable and sustainable world. We’ll stand strong in the face of threats to people’s rights at home and overseas, and continue to push for a government that’s responsive to the people, not a chosen few.
“We encourage President Trump to set aside conflicts of interest and corporate collusion, and rise to the challenge of representing a diverse nation, taking leadership in building a world where every voice counts, and all human rights are respected.”
