Vice President Harris’ statement today shows that the administration is feeling the pressure for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, but her mention of a six-week measure falls far short of what is truly needed to resolve the current crisis and uphold human rights and international law.
We urge the Administration to take more decisive action by:
- Demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire from all parties involved.
- Holding Israel accountable to the provisional measures mandated by the International Court of Justice regarding the occupied Palestinian territories.
- Halting military aid and arms transfers to Israel
Temporary ceasefires alone are insufficient. The U.S. government must use its influence to facilitate a just and lasting peace that upholds the human rights of all people in the region and ensures respect for the rights of Palestinian people to freedom, dignity, and self-determination. Continued military support without accountability only enables further violation of Palestinian rights.
