Commenting on the Supreme Court’s ruling rejecting Trump’s request to keep billions in foreign aid frozen, Niranjali Amerasinghe, Executive Director of ActionAid USA, said:
“We welcome the Supreme Court’s rejection of the administration’s disingenuous bid for more time to review payments and resume funding for critical, life-saving foreign assistance. The administration has already eviscerated aid infrastructure without proper review, and they absolutely must be held accountable for that.
This ruling is not enough – the administration must still be obligated to disburse the funding that is being withheld and reinstate staff who may be needed to do so. Every day the funding remains blocked, more people go hungry, more communities face violence and disease, and more lives are lost. Time is running out, and as always, it’s the most marginalized people who are paying the price.”
