On May 22, 2019, Senator Bernie Sanders and Congresswoman Barbara Lee introduced the Inclusive Prosperity Act of 2019, also known as the Robin Hood Tax. We joined dozens of organizations to sign a letter encouraging Members of Congress to support the bill. Scroll down to read the letter.
Summary of the Robin Hood Tax
The Robin Hood Tax is a tiny financial transaction tax on speculative Wall Street transactions. By imposing a tax of 0.5% on stock trading, 0.1% on bond trading, and 0.005% on derivatives trading, we would raise an estimated $220 billion a year. This revenue would be directed to critical social programs like Medicare for All, College for All, job training and green jobs, housing assistance, transportation infrastructure, water infrastructure, climate change programs, global HIV treatment and prevention programs, and international health and humanitarian programs.
