Reacting to the recent protests and developing political transition in Bangladesh, ActionAid said:

“ActionAid stands in solidarity with the young people in Bangladesh who have courageously raised their voices in the fight for rights and justice. The courage of conviction and uncompromising commitment to reforming governance and protecting the human rights of the students is a powerful reminder of the essential role that young people play in shaping a just and equitable society.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased for the tragic loss of their loved ones during the recent quota reform protests. Freedom comes at a price, and we must honor those who have sacrificed for this cause by striving to build a nation that respects diversity and upholds equity for all its citizens.

While we are deeply concerned about the current situation, we are hopeful that this political transition, led by the young people will catalyze positive change. We urge the country’s duty bearers and rights holders to work together to ensure human rights, holistic inclusiveness, and good governance are at the forefront of our national agenda.

Together, let us build a future where everyone is valued, irrespective of gender, class, caste, or ethnicity, and every voice is heard.”
